When we were kids, we did all kinds of stuff on a dare. Most of the time, we escaped uninjured—or maybe with a scrape, a bruise or, at worst, a broken bone. However, for 8-year-old Ki’ari Pope of Boynton Beach, Florida, a dare led to months of medical problems, pain, suffering, and ultimately to her death.
Late last Sunday, July 30, little Ki’ari told her mother’s boyfriend that she could not breathe. Just minutes later, the young girl was unresponsive and in dire need of medical attention. Rescue crews rushed Ki’ari to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. the next day.
Ki’ari’s death was the result of medical issues caused by injuries she sustained in a tragic March 2017 event. Ki’ari’s mother, Marquisia Bonner, states that her daughter was dared to drink boiling water by her cousin, who is also eight.
